Overall: What a fantastic Race! From the water stations to the new friends I met on the course, I couldn't ask for better. At one point a volunteer pointed at me a yelled eye candy over here...I was grinning for the next few miles. Think I left my love handles somewhere around mile 18. Hmm. Goofy tried real hard to kick my butt, but! I made it.
Accommodations: My staging point was the Pop Century hotel where I managed to acquire a microwave and an ice chest. The chest contained individual portions of red beans and rice with fresh spicy Italian sausage. Just in case, I also made pasta with chicken and veggies.
Training: Hal Higdon's intermediate plan was used and found to be great for the Goofy. 10mi Sat and 20 on Sun x3
Race: Ran into a buff guy dressed like one of the movie "300" characters; tights, helmet and cape. I would do that but my body looks more like Smiggle (sp) from "Lord of the Rings. ˝ day…training pace 9:33…that's until I ran into an old and new friend that wanted to haul buns at the end. Couldn't resist. Full…much fun! (DON'T READ THIS PART… used a port-a-potty and couldn't stop going. Kept looking out the holes at the runners streaming by. Like I'd had 5 beers)
Rant: wheelchairs were trying to get by and kept yelling for this guy to move. He had on headphones and didn't move till I grabbed him.
