Hello all,
I got home today (Sunday) and boy am I sore. Disney did another wonderful job, mother nature was not as kind, it was HOT and muggy on Sat morning.
And I guess I proved the age old lesson, you get out of something what you put into it. This was not my year to train, and I actually only participated because I had talked a girl friend into this half and it was her first one. But I did get to experience some Disney race hospitality that I hope you all never have to.... my girl friend passed out as we were waiting in line for a photo op with Donald, the bike ridding medics were called and responded right away, they had lots of fancy medical equipment and were very nice to both my friend and her worried, tired, control freak partner, ME. After an attempt to get her to the car and get her back to the room, we then got to visit the medical tent, the staff there was wonderful and very kind. I believe they have the ability to give IV fluids, but because of the time, they were closing up shop for the day, we had been finished for about 2 hours by this point, they transferred her to Celebration Medical Center, where she got three IV bags full of fluid and blood test and an EKG, and we got to meet their great ER staff! When all was said and done, around 3:30 she was fine, rehydrated and the Dr said she had probably "stopped" too quickly and her legs were not helping circulate her blood, as they had when she was running. So be careful when you are standing around after a race, keep walking until you heart adjust to being finished.
I love Disney and look forward to running the full, next year, anyone know anything about the "secret" medal design???
My only complaints about this year, besides the heat... I hated the mile marker signs, they changed from the Disney character signs to Sharpie sponsored non-Disney themed signs. But I figure if that is all you can find to complain about, it was a great race!!!
Sorry I didn't make any of the encounters, maybe next year!!!
