2007 Walt Disney World Family Fun Run 5K Report: Matthew Spiegel
One thing that would be nice is to find on the web page a note stating that this “race” is NOT timed. There is nothing on the Disney site to tell you this until after you have signed up and paid for the race. For what it is worth, my wife and her sister ran it this year and had a great time. They were initially bummed out by the lack of an official time, but if they had known in advance then it would have been fine. Their major complaint was that the start was horribly organized. They make no attempt to tell walkers to line up towards the back. Given how narrow the course is and how many runners there are they really should put up pace signs and ask people to line up by their expected pace, which is what other large 5k’s do. Since Disney did not do this, the runners spent a lot of time trying to navigate around the walkers for most of the first two miles. But, despite that, running through MGM Park was something they both really enjoyed doing and they will probably run it again if we return to Disney for the marathon. Next year I believe the race will go through the Animal Kingdom.
