2006 Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge Report: Ed Childress

I came, I saw, I conquered !

Half Marathon Morning

It started early.  Disney insists that you be at the start area at 4 am.  I was
arranged for a Taxi ride from the Hotel to Epcot, due to the fact that my
significant other was work the volunteer check in and she had to be there @
2 am.  As I am waiting for my taxi, a nice couple from Portland gave me a lift
to the start.  They had never run this race before, so I was able to give them
information based on my experience last year.

My game plan, was to (1)  Take it easy; I figured, if I finished in under 2 hours,
I was going too fast. (2) Take picutures;  I remembered last year, that I only
had my camera phone, and I only took a few pictures last time. I really wanted
to gather some memories from this race experience.  I planned on taking pictures
at each mile marker, but things change.  The people here are so nice, and they
were willing to take pics of me with some of the Disney Characters (hey, I'm game
for that !).

The route was changed slightly from what I rember last year.  We didn't spend as
much time, going around the back areas and thru Epcot like we did last year. I
didn't mind, as I was more intereseted, in getting to the Magic Kingdom and
getting pictures of Mainstreet.  I attempted to stop and take pictures @ each
mile marker.

I had a really wonderful time during the half.  I finished in just over 2 hours,
and have memories to boot.  I came back to the hotel immediately afterwards, and
jumped into a nice cold ice bath.  I am set up well for tomorrow.

Full Marathon Morning

More of the same:  early morning wake up, gathering at the start and waiting for the gun to go off.  I knew I wouldn't be able to break any personal records during this race, so I decided early to just enjoy myself.  I would stop and take pictures with as many characters as I could.  At mile 18, I was beat, so, I used the character stops as a bit of recovery, and proceeded to the finish, as that was my ultimate goal.  I really had a blast.
