2006 Walt Disney World Family Fun Run 5K Report: Jeff Giles
Pre-race routine: Waited in traffic until 3 minutes before race was supposed to start. Wound up starting 20 minutes late because the rest of the world was in traffic too. Event warmup: None, no time (or so we thought). Once we got to the start area, we just stretched a bit... Run Comments: This was an untimed, unscored event. They had a timer at the end, but if you were near the back (which we were), your time was at least 4 -5 minutes off. There were about 3000 people in this "race" and I was all the way at the back (thanks to that traffic). Once we DID get thru the starting gate, it was all bottlenecked til you got on a wider path. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this was not an official race, so I didn't really prepare. I felt good after it though, I waited for Terri and Kim to come in before I even went for a drink, and I was fine. Post race Warm down: Went and relaxed for about 20 minutes before heading off to Downtown Orlando for our 15 mile run, that we only got 6 miles out of. What limited your ability to perform faster: The thousands of people and kids who had no idea that people actually wanted to RUN this race. Event comments: Fun time, but needs to be a little more organized so that they aren't cramming 3000 people into a 5-foot wide sidewalk. Last updated: 2006-01-07 10:00 PM
