OK, so after running Goofy last year - Disneyland is having its Inaugural 1/2 - I'm there. So I've been wanting to run this event since last January or earlier. Just pumped up. I have not been to Disneyland since '96? Wow has it changed, really nice. Thats another thread though I'll type later.
The expo was very nice and similar to WDW. We opened it up and it was busy FAST!. Wow I made it into Corral A( I was in C for WDW).
Race day 4:15am I go right to the starting line and skip the initial staging area. If I'm in Corral A I want to be up front. I meet this lady and guy at the front, we chat for a bit. The guy peels off to do pushups and the lady and I keep passing time chatting. Race time is 6am. She was from Portland OR, cool lady. Did I mention runners are amongst the mostly friendly people! Then another lady came up and we chatted all the way until the start. The second lady her husband was an Elite runner. Then the "Elite's" started to show up, there bib's actually say Elite cool. I'm such a Newbee, I had no idea. Hehe. She explained to me he ran a 1:40 and was excited to make it into the category. Very cool for him, that time was quick.
My PR is 1:53, 1:45 would be outstanding. As we get close to 6am, Jeff Galloway speaks to the crowds. That was very cool seeing him right there. Good speaker, nice of him to get up there before running with us.
The monorail pulls around with the characters inside with balloons everywhere, confetti goes off. There we go. Wow the taper feels good, just cruisin' - I want to PR pretty bad but mostly want a good run.
Hit the first mile marker and its 7:29, let me check my watch - thats accurate WHAT! All feels really good so I keep on cruisin'. Consistenly staying around 7:30 pace. So I keep on chuggin'. Running through the Disney parks in unreal, so nice. Then we head to the city of Anaheim, bands along the way, really nice out. There is a lady keeping the same pace but usually 20' ahead of me. She is smooth, really good form. I decide to try to stick with her. If by any chance she's reading this ty.
I pass her, she passes me, we keep cruisin' just pushing each other. Nice route for the race, scenic. Enjoying this run a lot!
Then we head into Angel's Stadium, hit the chip pad and they announce our names over the PA system, Woah! Thats cool. Then round home base to third(not on the grass, the warning track) and a camera is placed to put us up on the BIG SCREEN of the stadium. Really WILD! OK this is soooo cool. I need to keep this pace. Feels really good!
Something was up between mile 11 and 12 and I hit 8:00 split, now I'm pissed(but wait that was my goal time). Mile 12 - 13 I hit a split of 6:30. OK, time to bring it home. The last .1 was ALL OUT, passed two guys. Wow that felt good.
PR to beat 1:53, goal 1:45, actual 1:38.16.
1:38, mannnn now I'm bouncing off the walls!
I highly recommend this event to anyone. The Disneyland Half was extremely well run, great course, can't say enough good about it. My only delimma is trying to figure out how much Overtime I'll need to work to get back there. Hehe. If you read all of this, thank you. What a run!
