2006 Disneyland Half Marathon Report: Paul Nienow
I ran it, and here is my very, very brief race report: Had to arrive at 4:30, ouch, too early! Large energetic group, lots of tinkerbell's, micky ears, etc. It was a very well organized event. They announced at around 5:20 to go to the corrals. I had an assignment to the A corral, but at 5:20 they said they were all full except the end ones, like E. I knew it would be a zoo winding through the park and I wanted to be in the A, so I hopped a couple of fences and got in. At the gun we started running and didn't stop from that point. Slow first mile - 9 minutes. Then, the pace was great the whole way through. I peed on Katella in the bushes, as did lots of other people (usually I wouldn't worry, but this was Disneyland and I was half expecting some security guy to jump out of the bushes and nab me). It was great winding through the parks and it really was a great atmosphere for a run. The parks took you through around mile 5. Had to run up hill out of the park a bit, and then into the sun for a few miles. Then through Angel Stadium which was awesome! (I'm a die hard fan). Then it was home free from there, back through CA Adventure, and finished up in Downtown Disney. I crossed the finish with a 12 year old girl, and I ran a 1:45 - she was awesome! Overall, I loved it! I can't recommend it enough to anyone looking for a fun organized relatively easy event. Go for it. I am questioning the length of the run though, and will post that question in another topic. |
