Disney Marathon - January
11, 2004
Sunshine
state, heat and humidity, yea right, woke up 2:45 to get 3:15 bus to get to
start line by 4. get to meeting area, get off bus and wind is really blowing.
temp. according to weather channel was 40, but with wind blowing it was 30, find
bag drop tent, and never leave. the Snails find spot, sit down and stayed there
until 5;15,, along with 75 other very cold people.
A race official came into tent every 15 minutes saying
we had to leave, she was wearing sweater, parka, winter gloves , wool hat and
had hood up, we ignored her. Everyone that had to go to spot a pot came back,
saying it was 10 to 15 degrees warmer in tent, wind really kicking up. Move to
start line, cold, windy, Disney people do their usual long winded self promotion
and start race with fireworks.
The marathon and half marathon people are running side
by side on road separated by grass median, then they go different route, and we
then meet at about mile 3.3 , outside park area and its really crowded, run
together rest of race until half marathon people get to their finish line area
and they break away.
Running among the parks is kind of neat, but the long
road sections were a bore, every now and then a Disney character made a
appearance, and then you ran by and nothing again, there were plenty of aid
stations and plenty of water etc. Ran with Glenn (sticks) and we amused
ourselves with various thoughts during the day, like what would happen if we cut
the restraint cords on the large inflatable balloon characters they had placed
along the highway, would be kind of neat to see the genie really fly, or if I
had to find a spot a pot , but had to use Cinderella's castle wall instead ( no
I did not) , or if we could steal the llama in animal kingdom and ride it to the
finish.
All in all I am glad I did it, but once is enough for
the mouse marathon, Big Sur 2005 ...
