Short version; Loved the run, had a great time and ran a 3:58.
Once again another great production by the Disney folks. When I arrived at
EPCOT the skies were clear and the moon was out so I hoped that the weather
reports were wrong. But right before the race started the winds started
blowing and the clouds began to role in. So then my goal was get as far as
possible before the rain hit.
First half of the race went great, my wife met me at the Polynesian and
swapped out fuel belts with me and wished me luck on the last half. I was a
little disappointed in the Animal Kingdom leg. They have got to be able to
do better and get the run route through the park more and less through the
waste water plant, but did not disturb me as much as some who were running
next to me. Made it through the Wide world of Sports and then it started
misting, then the buckets of rain hit about mile 22, the way I looked at it
was it would make the stories better. Made me run a little faster the last
4 miles so I could get those heavy shoes off my feet. I hit the finish line
at 3:58 and felt satisfied. Really liked the medals this year, the date was
a god touch.
Spent a couple hours back at the Animal Kingdom lodge in the Jacuzzi then
went to the Hoopty Doo Review for dinner. Greta place to go because it is
all you can eat chicken and ribs and all you can drink beer or wine, great
for post marathon recovery. The Disney show was also very funny. Spent
Monday through Wednesday hitting the parks and then arrived back in VA Beach
late Wednesday night.
Now it is time to turn my attention to the Shamrock Marathon on 16 Mar in VA
Beach. This should be a great race on St Patrick's day weekend. Hope some
of the deads can make it to the race.
Just think only 366 days until our next Disney marathon.
