2001 Walt Disney World Half Marathon: Luz Delgado

Hey people:

I know its been a few days since the race but i wanted to collect my
thoughts before telling you the story. I have to begin saying that I
finish my half marathon with a smile on my face on 2 hours 52 minutes
and 9 seconds. Yupppy! I am still excited. This was my first time
doing the distance and i did better than i though i will. I never did
better than a 15 minute mile in my trainings in PR, so what can i
say? I am starting to love the cold weather. It was terrible for me
during the waiting but it did wonders for my running during the race.

I loved the race. What was my favorites?

1- I love when Mickey gave the start. I was at the back of the red
starting line so i saw it very closely and enjoy it a lot. I also
enjoy hearing La Vida Loca as we all LOCOS walk down to the start at
35 degrees at 5 am on the morning!

2- I love the runs through the parks, especially at Magic Kingdom
where there were so many people supporting us. I really run with all
my heart at that time. I felt like i was floating in the air.

3- I loved running into a Penguin, Connector and Dead. I dont
remember her name. Wendy? If it was u please let me know. I have a
bad memory. If it was you, let me tell u i was sooo happy to see u
out there and you inspired me to keep going. I am must honor to have
metting you on that special part of the race.

4- I loved seeing all those pink caps when i got off the bus and was
cold and lonely :) U guys made my day.

5- I also love that i made friends with some girls from Joints in
Motion and they were great.

What will i do different next time?(yes, i am already thinking about
next time!:)

1- I was at the back of the pack when we were forming on that place
before leaving for the starting line. But i standed on the center of
the back and i could not move to go use the porta potties. I had to
walk through a mass to get out of there and go! So after i use the
porta potie i decided to stand at the sides so i can go porta potie
any time i wanted before we leave that area..and this was very wise
and nice. I didnt had to use the potties in all the race. I will do
this from the beggining next time.

2- I will NOT walk the parks the day before.

3- I will wear old clothes that i can discard so i wont be freezing
my butt out there.

4- Go to the encounters! I miss them this time because i didnt plan
well enough and i was too tired every single hour because i was
trying to fit too many thigns in too little time.

5- I will plan better the meeting points with my family during the
race. I missed them this time and i really wanted to seee them out
there cheering for me.

6- Ultimatley. NEXT TIME I AM GOING FOR THE MICKEY!!!

I walk through Epcot with my family showing off my medal to everybody
and thank the people who told me that cheer for us. It was the must
wonderful experience of my life. Thanks for sharing it with me

Love and thanks to all,

Luz, Finisher and Medalist of the Disney Half Marathon!
