2001 Walt Disney World Marathon & Half Report: Jennie McCafferty(Courtesy of Michigan Runner)
| LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (1/7/01)--The Hanson's are making a habit of good showings at the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. Kevin Hanson, 40, of Sterling Heights, won the Master's title in the 2001 Walt Disney World Half Marathon. His time of 1:12:59 was also good for third place overall. Other than Ronnie Hollasie, of Florida and Trinidad, who won first place easily in 1:09:49, the only other person who beat Kevin was his brother Keith Hanson, 35, of Huntington Woods. Keith was second across the finish line in 1:12:21. One year earlier, Kevin was the second place finisher in open division of the same race. Nancy Hanson, 34, of Sterling Heights, placed 6th in her age group of 505 competitors with 1:32:25. Kim Pawalek, 26, of Jacksonville, Florida, defended her 2000 half marathon title in 1:16:46. World record holder Ingrid Kristiansen, 44, of Oslo Norway, won the women's master's title for the second time in 1:19:05.
The 35 degree temperature at the 6:00 am start time was familiar to the folks from the North who had been training in winter conditions. Chris Teague of Norwood, Massachusetts, credited the favorable conditions for his marathon win in 2:26:38. Ilda Santos, 26, of Sao Paulo, Brazil, continued the Brazilian streak for the third year with her win of 2:46. In the marathon, Michael Webster, 41, of Northville, was the first Michigan runner and the first runner wearing Mickey Mouse ears to cross the finish line in 2:58:25. Deborah Lazaroff, 44, of Jackson, was the first Michigan woman in 3:26:49. |
